College radio put the DJ booth on air: first at BVZ Radio during my freshman year at Penn State Behrend, then at WHIP Radio at Temple University.
At BVZ Radio I hosted Hip-hop Heaven, a weekly show playing the top hip-hop and R&B records while promoting and interviewing local Pittsburgh artists. Radio added a new discipline to the booth: building a show, pacing it, and keeping listeners with you from the first track to the last. Those BVZ Radio mixes still live on SoundCloud.
Freshman year at Penn State Behrend, BVZ Radio put my sets on the air for the first time.
At Temple I joined WHIP Radio, while Media Studies & Production classes pulled me toward the camera.
Radio taught structure: an open, a build and a close. It’s the same shape as a good film.
